Designing your Spice (rack)

My eye has always been drawn to the shape of a hexagon, the beauty of the 6-sided symmetry and how it clusters together so perfectly. When I first saw Gneiss Spice’s magnetic spice jars, I was secretly jealous of their great product idea. I thought to myself, “Why didn’t I think of that!” I finally ordered a kit for myself for a few reasons:

  • While watching Marie Kondo’s Netflix series on New Year’s Day, I finally took action to reorganize my “spice rack”. My spice rack was essentially a bunch of store bought jars that just lived on my kitchen counter. It always bugged me and was not sparking joy.
  • I decided to make a conscious effort to support small businesses with the same mission as mine – to create less waste and buy smarter. I bought a Gneiss Spice kit for someone as a Christmas present and couldn’t wait to gift myself the same.

Let’s start the unboxing! So excited to KonMarie my spice rack!

I ordered the 10 small jars pack. I chose to get the empty jars since I already has spices that I needed to use up. As the spices run out, I will try to buy bulk spices locally or order directly from Gneiss Spice. They sell bulk spices packaged in compostable packaging.

I went from this ⬆️ to this ⬇️!

The kit came with sticker labels of the more common spices. There were blanks labels to write in the spice name, like the one I did for my Lavender Macadamia Nut seasoning that I got in Maui. You can see the magnet on the underside of the cap in my empty jar.

I would say my Gneiss Spice set sparks joy for me. I love the honeycomb design. I love how I have less clutter on the kitchen counter. I love that it’s starting me on a zero-waste track for something as small as spices. Marie Kondo would be proud of me. I am storing my spices in clear containers so I see its contents and standing it…somewhat vertically.
